The Moving Dartmouth Forward Review Panel has issued its second annual report on the College's progress in implementing President Hanlon's January 2015 plan for Moving Dartmouth Forward. The plan is aimed at combatting high-risk drinking and sexual assault and increasing inclusivity on campus and the Review Panel found that the College has implemented all the measures called for in the plan. The Review Panel reported its findings to the Board of Trustees in early November. Read the

In a series of wide-ranging discussions at board sessions on Nov. 4 and 5 in Hanover, Dartmouth trustees discussed the importance of continuing to attract, support, and retain the most academically talented students and accomplished teacher-scholars.
Board members also named a chair-elect, heard about campus initiatives from faculty and staff leaders, met with the Moving Dartmouth Forward external review panel, and attended a breakfast with officials from the town of Hanover.

In December, Associate Professor and Chair of Native American Studies Melanie Taylor and her husband, Alan Taylor, a lecturer in writing, will pack up their house in New London, N.H., and move with their 2-year old son, Abel, into a large Victorian house on North Park Street—part of the College’s new house communities system. Taylor says she’s thrilled to begin next term as the resident professor for North Park House.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, also called the Clery Act, is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to annually distribute to all students and employees a report containing descriptions of college or university policies relating to security, alcohol, and drug use; statistics on fires in residential buildings and on certain crimes that have occurred on or close to campus; safety information; and available resources for crime victims.

Barbecues, music, House swag, lawn games, and cultural and social events for the Dartmouth community will kick off the College’s new residential house system on Friday, Sept. 16.
The celebrations, at the end of the first week of classes, will be a chance for all first-year students and upperclassmen, no matter where they live, to get together with the members of their residential house, and with house-affiliated faculty and staff.

An anthropology class on human evolution travels to South Africa to meet leading scientists and study the fossil record directly at archaeological sites. Architecture students design projects to improve a public space and participate in a forum in New York City. Students studying American poetry collaborate with local high school students to share knowledge and perform poetry.
These are just a few of the dozens of projects being supported through the Experiential Learning Initiative, which was launched last year to promote and expand opportunities for students to apply classroom knowledge to the broader world—and vice versa.
